Product description:
AsthmaPlex: Botanical and nutritional modulation of airway inflammation.
  • Tylophora helps maintain lung health according to double-blind clinical trials (J Allergy 1969;43:145-50).
  • Laboratory research has shown the major constituent in Tylophora indica, the alkaloid tylophorine, exerts a strong anti-inflammatory action (Indian J Med Res 1979;69:513-20).
  • Test tube studies suggest that tylophorine is able to interfere with the action of mast cells, which are key components in the process of inflammation (Ind J Med Res 1980;71:940-8).
  • These actions seem to support tylophora's traditional use as an antiasthmatic and antiallergic medication by Ayurvedic practitioners.
  • Frankincense (Boswellia serrata) and ginger decrease production of inflammatory eicosanoids (Planta Med 1991;57:203-7, Bioorg Chem 2001;29:156-63).
  • Ginger root contains physiologically active compounds, such as the aromatic constituents zingiberene and bisabolene, and the pungent gingerols and shogaols.
  • Ginger inhibits the synthesis of 2-series prostanoids without harming the gastrointestinal tract, unlike aspirin and convention NSAIDS (Am J Chinese Med 1989;17:51-6). This may allow ginger to have significant platelet-dampening effects that protect vascular health (Prostagland Leukotrienes Essential Fatty Acids 1997;56:379-84.) as well as antiinflammatory effects (Osteoarthritis Cartilage 2000;8:9-12).
  • Ginger acts as a mild cholagogue (promoter of bile flow), digestive tonic, carminative and general complement to other remedies.
  • Selenium improves antioxidant defenses in the lungs (Allergy 1993;48:30-36).
  • Selenium is an antioxidant that assists the regeneration of reduced glutathione, and exerts other antioxidant effects. Antioxidants could potentially play a therapeutic role in pulmonary health, such as with chronic airway inflammation (Pharmacol Res 1999;40:393-404).
  • Magnesium helps regulate airway diameter and airflow. Magnesium levels appear to be lower in asthmatics and studies have shown that supplementing with up to 300 to 400 mg of magnesium per day improved symptoms of asthma (Eur Respir J 1997;10:2225-9).
  • Vitamin B6 supports healthy airway function (Ann Allergy 1975;35:93-97).
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) supplementation has been shown to result in a dramatic decrease in the frequency, duration and severity of asthmatic attacks (Ann Allergy 1975;35:93-97, Am J Clin Nutr 1985;41:684-88).
  • Very high amounts of Vitamin B12 supplements (up to typically 1,500 mcg per day) have been found to reduce the tendency for asthma attacks (J Allerg Clin Immunol 1992;90:103–109).
