| Product description: |
GlucoMSM: Glucosamine with MSM, convenient formulation of two frequently used joint support factors.
- GlucoMSM contains two primary ingredients that participate in maintaining connective tissue.
- 'Chondroprotection' is an important new concept in rheumatology, referring to the use of agents that actually build and protect the joint surfaces rather than merely suppressing symptomatic expressions of joint erosion.
- Glucosamine is an amino sugar, and the core building block of mucopolysaccharides, which form a primary component of the ground substance of articular cartilage.
- Glucosamine sulfate is an important precursor of glycosaminoglycans, which are critical constituents of joint tissue. Supplementary glucosamine sulfate may have a positive impact on joint health (Ann Pharmacother 1998;32:580-7).
- Glucosamine sulfate has been shown clinically to enhance the range of motion and comfort of joints in individuals with joint problems (JAMA 2000;283:1469-75, Ann Pharmacother 1998;32:580-7).
- Recent research has shown significant joint protection after three years in subjects taking glucosamine sulfate (Lancet 2001;357:251-6).
- Other supplements containing glucosamine hydrochloride rather than the sulfate salt do not appear to reliably benefit joint health (J Rheumatol 1999;26:2423-30). A recent report suggested that the sulfate portion might be a key factor in the effectiveness of glucosamine sulfate (Metabolism 2001;50:767-70).
- Potassium chloride (KCl) is a more expensive but preferred stabilizer of glucosamine sulfate.
- Double-blind research has demonstrated that MSM is superior to placebo for relieving chronic joint discomfort (Int J of Anti-Aging Med 1998;1(1):50).
- Supplementary methylsulfonyl-methane (MSM) may assist in relieving inflammation and promote joint health (Lawrence, RM, MD, PhD 1999 UCLA study).
