Complete high potency antioxidant complex with mixed natural carotenoids.
- OxyGuard’s formula includes natural-source beta carotene, alpha carotene, lutein, lycopene and other carotenoids balanced much as they occur in a diet of natural foods.
- The carotenoids beta carotene and lycopene have a spectrum of antioxidant activity, such as protecting against singlet oxygen, one of the most destructive types of free radical.
- Vitamin C may be the most important water-soluble antioxidant.
- Vitamin C supplementation protects against free-radical damage from sources such as secondhand smoke (Free Radic Biol Med 2000;28:428-36), protects LDL particles from oxidation (Am J Clin Nutr 1991;54:1113S-8S) and prevents damage to vascular walls (J Intern Med 2000;248:177-86).
- Vitamin E is the primary lipid-soluble antioxidant found in the body.
- Natural vitamin E may be as much as twice as bioavailable as synthetic E (Am J Clin Nutr 1994;60:397-402.)
- Vitamin E may be the most important protector of LDL cholesterol from oxidation.
- Natural vitamin E supplementation of at least 400 IU per day has been associated with cardiovascular health in several studies (Lancet 1996;347:781-6; Lancet 2000;356:1213-8).
- Vitamin E supplementation supports optimum immune system function (JAMA 1997;277:1380-6.) may also be important for long-term health of the prostate (J Natl Cancer Inst 1998;90:440-6).
