Product description:
Antioxidants, homocyst(e)ine lowering nutrients, garlic & chromium for cardiovascular health.
  • TriCard provides antioxidants and metabolic stabilizers that have a rôle in protecting the heart and vascular system.
  • Vitamin C supplementation protects against free-radical damage from sources such as secondhand smoke (Free Radic Biol Med 2000;28:428-36), protects LDL particles from oxidation (Am J Clin Nutr 1991;54:1113S-8S) and prevents damage to vascular walls (J Intern Med 2000;248:177-86).
  • In a controlled trial, a combination of supplemental vitamins C and E helped protect myocardial tissue from the effects of ischemia (Am J Cardiol 1996;77:232-6).
  • Vitamins C and E are mutually complementary antioxidants, as the former affects circulating elements such as LDL cholesterol, while conserving vitamin E.
  • Vitamin E is the primary lipid-soluble antioxidant found in the body.
  • Vitamin E may be the most important protector of LDL cholesterol from oxidation.
  • Natural vitamin E may be as much as twice as bioavailable as synthetic E (Am J Clin Nutr 1994;60:397-402.)
  • Natural vitamin E supplementation of at least 400 IU per day has been associated with cardiovascular health in several studies (Lancet 1996;347:781-6; Lancet 2000;356:1213-8) as well as long-term protection of the carotid arteries (J Intern Med 2000;248:177-86).
  • Vitamin E supplementation supports optimum immune system function (JAMA 1997;277:1380-6.) may also be important for long-term health of the prostate (J Natl Cancer Inst 1998;90:440-6).
  • Folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12 have been shown to reduce and detoxify undesirable levels of the amino acid homocyst(e)ine, an atherogenic methionine derivative (J Nutr 1994;124:1927-33; Am J Cardiol 1995;75:132-6).
  • Chromium adequacy can enhance insulin sensitivity and may reduce the tendency to hyperinsulinemia, which has an unfavorable effect on lipid metabolism and vascular health (J Am Coll Nutr 1998;17:548-55; J Am Coll Nutr 1997;16:404-10).
  • Selenium, the mineral activator of glutathione peroxidase, has been associated with cardioprotective effects (Int J Epidemiol 1990;19:918-22) and other long-term health benefits (J Natl Cancer Inst 1998;90:1219-24).
  • TriCard contains a highly bioavailable form of selenium (J Nutr Sci Vitaminol 1999;45:119-28) that has been associated with impressive health protective effects in human studies (JAMA 1996;276:1957-63; Eur J Cancer 2000;36:694-709).
  • Garlic, especially when used as a standardized concentrate, has a favorable effect on blood lipids (Ann Int Med 1993;119:599-605), blood pressure (J Hyperten 1994;12:463-8) and platelet function (Arzneim-Forsch Drug Res 1993;43:119-22), and has been associated with long-term protection of the carotid arteries (Atherosclerosis 1999;144:237-49).
  • Diets high in the flavonoid quercetin have been associated with cardioprotection in several studies (BMJ 1996;312:478-81; Arch Intern Med 1995;155:381-6.)
